The commune of Contulmo was founded as strong in 1868 for Cornelio Saavedra, in its step toward Purén. In 1884 he/she received an immigrant group of artisans and farmers coming from Berlin who gave impulse to the district, even founding the first German school that there was in the country, in 1893. In 1910 the railroad was inaugurated that traveled from Lebu to Peleco, and that in 1938, it crossed the Mountain range of Nahuelbuta; today the brunch is disabled, although it is possible to make the journey and to cross its tunnels in a recreational way.
This commune presents a microclimate that benefits the horticultural activity, especially the cultivation of the murtilla and white strawberry, this last national exclusivity of this area. It is necessary to highlight that this town is near to the two beautiful lakes of the county, the Lanalhue and the Lleu Lleu, where they highlight the sectors of Port Contulmo, in the first one and Huillinco in the second.
Another very important particularity and that it transforms Contulmo into a special town of the rest of the country, it is that in this commune they cohabit to newspaper a trilogy of cultures: descending of the old German colony, communities mapuches and the descendants of Chilean Creoles.
As arriving
From Concepción you 172 km should travel. to arrive to Contulmo. It should cross the bridge of the river Bío Bío to take Route 160 Concepción - High Hill for the Route of the Araucanian, once passing the city of Cañete, in the town of Peleco, takes the Route toward the interior (this), 33 km travels. and it arrives to the commune of Contulmo.
From the Route 5, the alternative quicker vial is to arrive to Collipulli to take the route 182 that he/she goes to Angol. Once in Angol he/she should take the route R-86 to the town of The Sallows and then the route R-60-P that will leave it in the commune of Contulmo.

Description:
It was founded in 1941. It is located in the buttresses of the Mountain range of Nahuelbuta. It has a mediterranean climate which is modified by the drop altitude of the sector allowing the penetration of the marine influence and of the western coming humid winds that generate a considerable increment in the precipitations in comparison with the adjacent sectors.
These natural conditions have allowed the growth of a great variety of species like olivillo, ulmo, tepa, tineo, laurel, oak and a dense quila sotobosque, murtilla, ferns and copihue. Under this vegetable formation they take refuge animal species as the puma, fox, monkey of the mount, pudú trusts I trust, hued hued, chucao, cachudito and thrush.
